Communication is a crucial tool, which many of our students lack before enrollment in one of our schools. To remedy this, we provide them with a positive and caring counseling environment in which they feel comfortable to communicate their problems, fears, and struggles to counselors whose job, in part, is to listen.
Every student is assigned a counselor who is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of his or her Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Parents receive weekly communication regarding their son or daughter’s progress, and Probation Officers are notified of updates on students’ status regularly as well. Formal reports outlining each students’ individual rehabilitation progress are submitted to Probation Officers and committing judges.
Both One-to-One and Group Counseling programs address the specific needs of our students. Each student must attend one-to-one counseling sessions, which address individual student needs. Students participate in Group counseling sessions which include: Anger Management, Victim Awareness, Guided Group Interaction, Parenting, Family and Self, Diet/Nutrition, and Independent Living Skills.
The Academy Schools boasts an award-winning Drug and Alcohol Counseling Program, which students attend twice a week to battle addiction and work toward a healthy recovery through the completion of a four-step treatment program. Licensed by the Department of Health, this program, active in all four schools, uses a multi-dimensional eclectic approach, which is specifically designed to meet the individual needs of the client. Led by a staff of counselors holding credentials qualified by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs, students tackle a four-step program to sobriety. This route to sobriety is paved by the utilization of various treatment models such as: Reality Therapy, the 12-step approach, and multi-family group session as well as the instruction of meditation and relaxation techniques to assist students in the handling of stress and anxiety. The four steps to the Drug and Alcohol Counseling Program are as follows:
Step One (1st –2nd Month): “Breaking the Chain of Addiction and Denial”
Step Two (2nd – 3rd Month): “Unmasking the Client”
Step Three (4th-5th Month): “New Beginnings”
Step Four (5th – 6th Month): “Renewed Hope”
