Named the “1994 Community Based Program of the Year”
by the Pennsylvania Juvenile Court Judges' Commission
The Academy's Day/Evening program serves two functions. The first being its service as a healthy alternative to the placement of juvenile offenders in a residential facility, giving the young man or woman an opportunity to remain at home while receiving rehabilitative treatment. The second involves its role as an aftercare placement facility for those students who had previously been placed away from their home and community.
During the program, students attend classes, work in the industrial trades program, attend practice for varsity sports and participate in counseling sessions during weekday evenings and weekend days. During the week, students are picked up at their homes or public schools by our vehicles. The program runs from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at which time students are driven back to their places of residence.
Crime statistics show that the highest rate of crime among adolescent aged men and women is highest between the hours of four and eight PM, when students are left, usually, unsupervised and to their own free will. The Academy's Day/Evening Program provides our students with the opportunity to participate in activities such as athletics and trades training which they would find nowhere else in the community.
The Academy is a co-educational school with an approximate enrollment of 200 students and has served over 5,000 court adjudicated young men and women since its founding in 1982.
